Saline irrigation is one of the most complex and damaging stressors in perennial tree management. Unlike annual crops, trees like date palms, citrus, olives and ornamentals accumulate salt damage over multiple seasons, making early detection and data driven guidance essential.

When trees are irrigated, water molecules are absorbed by the tree and are lost through evapotranspiration (ET) but the dissolved salts stay behind in the soil. Over time, the concentration of salts makes it more difficult for tree roots to absorb water, even when soil moisture is adequate.
